Welcome to the Dawn of the Revolution forums.

We are always looking for new crews to join our flag and mates to join our crews. Before you ask or if you already did and were directed here, you are taking the first step in becoming part of the finest flag on the Cobalt by reading this and learning that we live by a pirate code of conduct to maximize enjoyment for all and to grow fearsome, well skilled, and well mannered pirates. This etiquette guide epitomizes the rules we live by... we ask you please read and understand before making a decision whether this would be a good home for you or not.

First of all, this be a game, and for you to have fun playing it is our goal. But in having fun, we all do need to reflect for a moment from time to time that our actions in playing it may seriously affect others' enjoyment of the game. In order to maximize the enjoyment of all, minimize frustration levels, and reduce flag/crew turmoil and drama that tend to cause people to quit there are a few rules of conduct that even pirates should follow and that's why this guide was made. If ye plan to join us, all we ask is that ye please read and attempt to obey the following pirate etiquette guidelines. Everyone makes mistakes, but repeated intentional violations of minor rules or gross violation of a major one may possibly result in planking, demotion or even expulsion (for very serioius infractions) from the crew.

Respect, respect, respect. It can't be said enough. Respect should be directed to ALL players no matter of their rank. A jobber behind a computer screen is a human the same as a captain or a officer behind a computer screen. Each human being is different but we all have feelings and we need to know that respect for a person is essential no matter if they are ranked higher then you or just jobbing etc. If we are to be a happy crew we need to respect each other and accept we are all different but basically all here for some socialising, some puzzling and some fun. Embrace each other for the uniqueness that makes us a family. (Thanks to Bladeoftalia for this sage advice)

Don't ever make offensive remarks about a mate in vessel, crew, or /o chats especially for failure to follow this guide. If you do have a problem with someone's comments or actions, please send them a tell explaining the issue and direct them to this guide.

Don't immediately snitch for a first offense, especially without the warning to the individual. This game is a learning experience for all and people make mistakes. If your tell doesn't work and they persist, then it may signify more serious issues. Then it may be permissible to bring the issue up to the attention of an SO or even the Captain for them to deal with it.

Never beg for poe. We all work hard for our poe, and ye should as well.

Don't shout repeatedly. It's annoying. 'Nuff said.

The YPP Charter states that ye must be 14+ to play, so ye should talk and act as if ye were at least that old.

Alway request permission to board (PTB), unless the commanding officer (CO) just posted a crew or /o chat invite. Please don't ask ptb after an open invite, as the CO is busy gathering the rest of the necessary crew. Ship commanders should ask according to specific duty position skills needed to avoid turning people away. For example, if the CO is looking for a sailor on a sloop then there are only one or two sailors helping to get the ship moves in battle, and if your skill level is "able" you will not be of much assistance in helping to win sea battles. So be aware that the CO probably can't use you and ye should work to build yer skills with the navy or jobbing on bigger ships first before jumping on a ship or offering up yer services.

Do not board from a notice on the notice board without an open invite from the commanding officer (see above). As explained there, the CO is screening jobber applicants may be looking for a specific skill that you may not be able to provide. So ask PTB.

When ye board a ship, say "Ahoy!" The captain may be distracted and not see you board. If the ship has bots on it (or only 4 pirates including yerself), and ye need to leave, then make sure the commanding officer knows ye be leaving so he can get a bot to replace ye. Ye don't want to leave them shorthanded.

Obey orders from the commanding officer in charge of the vessel. The CO is attempting to make the maximum amount of poe for you and the rest of the crew working. That's what you're there for, to assist in accomplishing just that.

Don't repeatedly ask to be allowed to gun, nav, etc. If the officer in command says no once, then stop asking.

Don't spam on vessel. Jokes and questions are good to keep pillies enjoyable when spawning for targets at a league point, but continuous pointless chatter when the vessel is under way gets annoying and distracts crew from duties. Be aware that too many questions or off-topic chit-chat while at sea also distracts yer mates from doing their duties properly and can result in less booty.

Keep tells to a minimum while at sea. We all need to talk to hearties and other crew, but please don't be excessive. Spending too much time reading and sending tells keeps ye from doing yer own duty properly as well and affects the operations of the ship. You can have yer deep, meaningful discussions with hearties on the dock. If it can't wait, then notify the officer in charge to start looking for your replacement.

Don't leave a ship during the sea battle, and avoid going afk (away from keyboard) during one. If ye be between battles, tell the commander ye need to leave, and then leave the ship before ye disconnect so they have room to get a replacement on board. Unless it's a real life emergency, please try to stay on until the ship reaches the next league point (lp) to keep her safe from being attacked shorthanded unless they specifically tell ye that ye can go.

Don't leave a ship or go afk during the melee, even if ye be already knocked out. After battle, the CO may decide to re-engage and needs all mates on position. Also, after battle the ship is vulnerable to attack and ye should assist to get it to a league point so it's less vulnerable. If ye need to leave, the CO will attempt to find a replacement as you're helping to get the ship to a safe point.

Exhibit patience with other pirates. Be aware that English may not be their native language. Don't ever belittle anyone publicly about their spelling skills.

Please try to keep the use of internet chatroom jargon and abbreviations to a minimum, especially if other pirates seem to not understand (see above rule).

• Last but not least, do not take offense if someone fails to immediately answer yer tells or is too busy to talk to you at the moment. Chat can get burdensome, especially when we're trying to excel in our puzzling, especially when jobbed on a large ship, and some folks have a large number of hearties, so yer tells can get lost in the general chat noise. Also, be aware that people do come here to 'relax', but they may have things that must get done in the little amount of time they have here. Standing around to to answer questions or chat about the weather may not be what they have time for when they have stalls to keep up, especially if it's an issue that many others in the crew may be able to answer.

That's about it. Hope ye all have a great experience here sailing with Twisted Revolution, the absolute finest crew on the Cobalt. Remember, "The toughest pirates are not the ones who face the most difficult challenges or situations. The toughest are the ones who always keep a smile on their lips and pass it on to others, irrespective of how difficult or frustrating the situation gets!"

Welcome aboard, mate!!! Yarrrrrrrrrr!!!
